One of the most popular and important hooks for tying small mayfly nymphs, caddis pupa, midges, or scuds. This hook being very stout can also be used for eggs patterns and is it very rare to have one of these bend out on big fish. Sometimes tying standard patterns like Birds Nest or Princes give the fly a unique look that fish do not see as often. When in doubt tying mayflies or caddis pupa, use a 2457. TFS 2457 hooks
I cant say enough good about these hooks. I use size 14-18 and they are super strong. Have caught a lot of big fish and never had one straighten out. What I particularly appreciate compared to most scud style hooks is that the eye is not bent down much which means better ability to hook fish. And the price is ridiculously cheap. Get these hooks!

I tie a lot of flies and these hooks looked like a good deal. I tie a lot of flies on scud style hooks, mainly for emergers, glo bugs, sucker spawn and small caddis and midge pupa. I caught a few 30 inch plus steelhead in Erie, PA this fall and the hooks didn’t fail.

The TFS 2457 hook is my go to hook. The open gape style hook is versatile and allows me to tie my favorite wet/emerger style flies with ease. Also I seem to land more fish with this type of hook.
